A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Kerala Cricket Association and the S.D. College here for the construction of a cricket stadium on the college grounds.

The stadium is part of the KCA’s Rs.1 crore-project to develop cricket in the district. The project at the S.D. College grounds will include an indoor net practice centre to enable cricketers to practise both day and night and during rains. A turf wicket practice centre and a children’s park are also a part of the project. The MoU, signed by KCA secretary T.C. Mathew and S.D. College management president S. Mahadevan, is for a period of 15 years.

K.C. Venugopal, MP, A.A. Shukoor, MLA, District Cricket Association president A.M. Noufel, secretary Sreejith V. Nair, KCA treasurer Saji Kumar, vice president Sunil Koshy, SDV manager R. Krishnan and others were present.

The cricket stadium will be the second stadium in the district headquarters, what with construction work progressing on the Alappuzha Municipality's Rs.15 crore-project for a multi-games complex and stadium at the Bhattathiri Purayidom in the heart of the town.
