The police have arrested one more person who is suspected to have links with a racket that mortgage vehicles taken on rent.

The person has been identified as Anuraj, 34, of Ayyanthol in Thrissur district. His arrest comes close on the heels of the arrest of Aneesh, a resident of Thrissur, for his alleged links to the racket.

Their alleged modus operandi was to make friends with people employed in travel agencies and utilise them to borrow vehicles on rent. The vehicles were then mortgaged in places such as Ponnani, Chavakkad and Malappuram.

The police said that they were involved in several cheating cases in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. The police made the arrests on a complaint by a Mulavukad islander whose vehicle was recovered from near Ponnani.
