Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas has said that stops will be allotted for more trains at Tripunithura, Kalamassery, and Edappally railway stations to ease the traffic problems caused by the construction of the proposed Kochi Metro Rail.
A decision will also be taken to halt trains at Ponnurunni as well. Initially, Vanchinad Express will be allotted stop at Tripunithura from October 2, followed by Parasuram Express.
Mr. Thomas was speaking after inaugurating the mud house along with the train ticket booking counters and ATMs in it set up by the district administration on the civil station premises with the support of Union Bank and HDFC Bank.
The Minister pledged full support of the Central government in developing Thrikkakara in keeping with its status as the district headquarters.
He said that Thrikkakara should be developed in such a way that it becomes a relief from the congested Kochi city. He said the railway counter in the mud house will be of help to people from other parts of the country who have settled down in Thrikkakara. Mr. Thomas said that flyovers should be constructed at Edappally, Vyttila, and Kundannoor to ease the traffic problems of the city. Development will not be possible without people’s participation. Not funds but people’s trust and cooperation are vital to development.
