KOCHI: Several deserving persons have been omitted from the draft list of beneficiaries under the government’s LIFE (Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) scheme, Muvattupuzha MLA Eldho Abraham has said. He demanded that the draft list be examined and the issue addressed at the earliest. Mr. Abraham was speaking at the District Development Council (DDC) meeting here on Saturday, according to a press release.
He said around 5,000 deserving candidates did not find place in the draft list in Ernakulam district, and that several applications were rejected on technical grounds.
K.J. Maxy, MLA, said training grounds for practising football should be made ready in view of the Under-17 football world cup to be held in Kochi in October. “The grounds should be transferred to FIFA by September 15. The road from the Fort Kochi Parade Ground to Thoppumpady is in poor condition, and it should be repaired immediately,” he added.
V.P. Sajeendran, MLA, said several roads in the district were in poor condition after they were dug up for laying pipelines. Maintaining that there were differences of opinion between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), he called upon the District Collector to convene a meeting of the two departments at least once in a month. The MLA highlighted the poor condition of the Chithrappuzha-Ponjassery Road.
P.T. Thomas, MLA, said the aged couple, who were ousted from their home in Thripunithura recently, should be given medical attention immediately.
Eldhose Kunnappilly, MLA, raised the issue of payment of arrears to workers at Travancore Rayons.
Kalamassery municipal chairperson Jessy Peter said parking of container lorries along the road from North Kalamassery to Seaport-Airport Road posed threat to motorists.
