More PhDs needed: Cusat VC

December 16, 2014 09:40 am | Updated 09:40 am IST - KOCHI

The ambitious target of scaling up the number of PhDs may be an uphill task for the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) going by the present research output.

The varsity departments together generate just about 40 theses annually against the 250 and more works submitted by researchers in prestigious institutions like the IITs.

Vice Chancellor Dr J. Letha has now asked the heads of research departments to come up with a plan that would help in boosting the research work on the campus. In a recent meeting with the senior faculty members, she is learnt to have told them to prepare an action plan aimed at stepping up the quality of research work on the campus. The heads of departments will now submit an action taken report periodically.
