Incessant and heavy rain coupled with pot-holed roads made life a nightmare for school and office goers on Friday. Many schools wrapped up classes earlier than usual.

The district collector declared a holiday for educational institutions on Saturday due to heavy rains.

The round-the-clock control room of the district administration formed to deal with natural calamities was yet to receive reports of damage caused by the monsoon though the entire district came under heavy rain.

Parts of the city vulnerable to water logging lived up to their reputation. Pulleppady, M.G. Road, Providence Road, North, South, Udaya Colony near the south railway station, and Kalathiparambil Road remained inundated throughout the day.

Though areas outside the KSRTC bus stand and south railway station were flooded, services weren’t affected.

Roads in the city weighed down by the burden of Kochi Metro works posed a bigger challenge to wade through. Rain also took its toll on traffic, which got reduced to snail’s pace in many vital stretches like Vyttila junction, Edappally and Kaloor.
