March 17, 2014 01:28 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 12:15 pm IST - KANNUR:

The house of Jaseera Vadakkan, in the news for her protests against the sand mafia, was surrounded by a 500-member mob which accused her of keeping illegally mined sand on the residential premises.

Jaseera had been protesting against illegal extraction of sand from the Neerozhukkumchal beach, near Pazhayangadi. The Pazhayangadi police said the mob alleged that she had been illegally taking sand from the beach for construction works at her house. The mob was not a violent one and it consisted mostly of residents of the area, the police said.

When reports last came in, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) was on the spot. Sources said the officer would hold detailed talks with all those concerned on Monday.
