The government will take up work on the second phase of the Kochi metro after securing clearance from the Centre, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the Assembly on Wednesday.

The fate of the proposed Stadium-Infopark metro stretch was raised in the Assembly on Tuesday after V.P. Sajeendran, Kunnathunadu MLA, brought in a submission. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the work on the stretch could be started only after the Centre approved the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), which was under the consideration of the State government.

He added that the district administration was in the process of kick-staring the Social Impact Assessment. Mr. Vijayan informed the House that the government had sanctioned ₹189 crore for the preparatory work for the second phase.
