The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is busy with girder launch in the Aluva-Palarivattom stretch of the Kochi metro, though it is yet to pick pace in the corridor up to Maharaja’s College ground on MG Road.
This has been attributed largely to the delay in land acquisition and subsequent non-widening of roads.
“Metro’s contractors entrusted with civil works are finding it tough to launch girders in the stretch beyond Palarivattom due to inadequate space for heavy duty cranes to manoeuvre.
The limited space within 8-metre-wide barricaded portions is often insufficient for basic civil work. Girder launch must be done with extreme caution and hence needs wider roads that are available only beyond city limits,” metro sources said.
Metro’s reach one is confined to the 18-km-long Aluva Maharaja’s ground stretch and is scheduled for completion in June 2016.
