Mega medical camp held in Kochi

As many as 5,000 persons, seeking free diagnosis and treatment, attended the second phase of the superspecialty medical camp, ‘Soukyam 2014’, held as part of MLA Hibi Eden’s reach-out programme in Kochi on Sunday.

Inaugurated by Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar, close to 400 medicos, 50 technicians and about 300 nurses took part in the mega medical camp, organised in association with nearly 20 city hospitals. Mr. Eden presided over the inaugural function and actor Dileep was the chief guest.

Funds worth Rs.15.15 lakh allotted from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund was distributed to 27 patients and a special fund of Rs. 5 lakh was given to Elizabeth, a Class 7 student from Cheranallore. Free follow-up treatment has been ensured to about 516 patients at different hospitals across the State.

Free spectacles were distributed to about 500 patients and free cataract treatment will be provided for 176 patients.
