Meet on endoscopic sinus surgery begins

A two-day live surgical workshop on the latest techniques of Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, MEGAFESS 2015, began here on Friday. State president of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI), Dr. K.U. Seethi inaugurated the programme.

The international meet brought together five top ENT surgeons. Heinz Stammberger from Graz, Austria, who is credited with popularising the technique of endoscopic sinus surgery, delivered the keynote address.

Gerald Wolf from Austria, David Kennedy from the U.S., Daniel Simmen from Switzerland and Elina Toskala from the U.S. were among the top experts at the meet. Dr. George Varghese, organising chairman of the conference, was among those who presented the scientific papers on various subjects. Live surgical demonstration of endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery techniques would be held on Saturday. 

The workshop is being jointly organised by the AOI, Cochin Chapter of AOI and Cochin Society of Otolaryngologists for Medical Services.

Dr. Praveen Gopinath, chairman, scientific committee; Dr. Paul Abraham and Dr. Saju K.G., organising secretaries of the conference, were among those present at the inaugural function. There are nearly 50-odd foreign delegates from West Asia, Singapore and other countries among the 450 delegates attending the conference.
