Mayor Soumini Jain pointing out to a police official the damage caused to her car, in Kochi on Tuesday.

The rear windshield of a private vehicle owned by Mayor Soumini Jain was found damaged on Tuesday evening. The car was parked in front of a business complex near her residence at Ravipuram.

Ms. Jain said the incident came to light around 7.30 p.m. after the security guards at the complex alerted her. The window panes of the SUV were smashed using an inter-locking tile, she said.

The Mayor added that the CCTV footage would be collected to identify those behind the incident. “Even though the security guards alerted us, they could not identify the culprits,” Ms. Jain said.

The police said they had begun a probe into the incident and will examine the CCTV footage in detail to nab the culprits. A case will be registered, they added.
