The picturesque locales of Mauritius are beckoning South Indian film producers.

The Mauritius government will offer 30 per cent refund on the production expenses incurred for shooting a Malayalam or Tamil movie at the breathtaking beaches and its exotic landscape.

But the incentive comes with a rider. “For feature films, the production expenditure should be not less than $10, 0000,” says Nanda Narrainen, Director, Industry Cluster of the Board of Investment in Mauritius. He was in town as part of a round table meet organised by India International Film Tourism Conclave here on Friday.

Sharing his country’s ambitious plans to woo movie producers from the southern States of India, Mr. Narrainen said here on Friday that the 30 per cent refund would be applicable to expenses such as hotel accommodation, air tickets, remuneration for cast and crew, equipment rent, logistics and shipping and air freight. Besides feature films, the refund scheme will be applicable to documentaries, television serials and high-end TV commercials. Mr. Narrainen pointed out that the Board of Investment would not take more than 48 hours to issue the permits for shooting. Producers can also avail a sponsorship and product placement scheme once they agree to promote the tourist spots in Mauritius.

B. Shashikumar, president of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, and others spoke.
