World Maritime Day celebrations here on Tuesday saluted the spirit of the seafarers in the country and focussed on the new threats like piracy, criminalisation of seafarers and the life-threatening viruses that infest the ports of call.
Chief Surveyor with the Government of India Amitava Banerjee was the chief guest at the day's celebrations, organised at the Merchant Navy Club. Seafaring need to be portrayed as a profession of stature, said Pradeep Correa, General Manager, Great Eastern Shipping Company in his address.
