In a freak accident, a 69-year old Tamil Nadu native lost his life after being thrown out of a moving city bus near Menaka in Kochi on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Baluchami (69) of Ittivayal in Ramanathapuram district.

According to police, the accident took place at 6 a.m. when the victim, who had been standing inside the bus, lost his balance as the bus took a sharp turn and fell out through the rear window.

“The deceased boarded the Aluva-Kochi bus from the Menaka bus stop, just 50 metres away from the accident spot. He had several packets and bags with him and was struggling to catch the handlebar even as the bus swerved on reaching the Immanuel Church”, officials said.

In the impact of the fall, he suffered a major head injury and was rushed to the Ernakulam General Hospital. He, however, was declared ‘brought dead’ by the hospital authorities.

The police said Baluchami was working in a travel agency in the city. The body has been kept at the general hospital mortuary as his relatives are yet to arrive.
