Have you been into organic farming these days? Then your passion may bring in some prizes too besides the home-grown vegetables and fruits.

The Yasoram Charitable Trust has come up with a competition to promote organic farming in Kochi. The trust has announced a competition for organic farming through organic waste utilisation of 10,000 households in the district. Before you start filling in the application forms, just keep in mind the all important regulation of the competition.

It is a strict no for non-organic pesticides and manure. But you are free to nourish the plants with organic manure. So is the case with pesticides. The extent of your farm should not exceed 3,000 sq.ft. The organisers will support the competitors by providing seeds and that too free of cost. Households, student groups, voluntary organisations and residents associations can join the contest. The best performance in cultivation would receive a purse of Rs.5,000, trophy and certificate. The first runner up will get Rs.3,000, trophy and certificate and the second runner up will get Rs.2,000, trophy and certificate. The next seven best cultivators will get Rs.1,001, trophies and certificates each.

More details of the competition can be had from A.R.S. Vadhyar, Managing Trustee, Yasoram Charitable Trust, T.D. Road-Convent Road junction, Ernakulam. Contact number: 0484-2352437.
