The race between Ernakulam Maharaja’s College and St. Teresa’s College intensified when the results of 16 items were declared at the Mahatma Gandhi University youth fest on Friday evening.

Maharaja’s College was at the top of the charts with 39 points. St. Teresa’s College, which was lagging behind on Thursday, bettered its position with two individual wins towards the close of day three of the festival.

The college was at second position with 24 points. St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam, was at third position with 15 points while U.C. College, Aluva and RLV College, Tripunithura were tied at 12 points each. The festival spirit reached an all-time low as inordinate delay and low-key atmosphere at the venues marked the latest edition of the university arts fest.

The popular folk dance event, which was scheduled at 10 a.m, began only in the afternoon forcing many viewers to leave the Durbar Hall venue. Those who remained were left sorely disappointed as the performances lacked quality. Students presented the oft-repeated characters forcing the judges to complain about the lack of control over the movements by most of the dancers. Expectations that Friday will witness participation of more youngsters failed as only a few teams turned up for most of the events.

Only 20 colleges had representation in the folk dance competition. The audience turnout was also poor in the majority of venues on the third day.
