The movement of cooking gas cylinders from the Udayamperoor bottling plant of Indian Oil Corporation continued to be disrupted on Saturday as the tanker lorry drivers reportedly refused to work without cleaners.
The district administration has issued orders that tanker lorries plying the road without cleaners will be stopped.
General convenor of All Kerala LPG Transporters’ Association Binoy Alex V. said most of the lorries could not operate as cleaners were not available though they had sufficient number of drivers. He said only about 20 lorries were loaded on Saturday but expressed hope that the movements would be back to normal by Wednesday.
The striking drivers had taken up the issue of payment of arrears for the period between January and March this year. However, Mr. Alex alleged that the drivers were claiming arrears for their crew, who actually did not work during the period for which the arrears are being paid.
The payment of arrears and other outstanding issues will be discussed at a meeting scheduled for June 5.
