The shortage in cooking gas cylinders in the district will be resolved within a week, District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed has said.

A bullet tanker carrying 20 loads of liquefied petroleum gas had been brought to the bottling plant of the Indian Oil Corporation on Friday night in order to resolve the shortage, he said.

The bottling plant will operate on Sundays also to clear the backlog. The distribution of cooking gas cylinders will be normalised within a week, Mr. Pareed said.

In the context of this assurance, he requested people not to create trouble at gas agencies.

He said that many such incidents had been reported from gas agencies across the district.

Mr. Pareed said that complaints with regard to cooking gas cylinders can be lodged with the disaster mitigation control room (0484-2423513, 2427433) functioning round-the-clock at the collectorate.

The collector had instructed the police to take stern action against those creating law and order problems.

He said that cooking gas cylinder distribution in the district had progressively increased from 9,562 numbers on October 1 to 13,473 on October 3, 15,035 on Thursday and 16,761 by Friday.

The Indian Oil Corporation, he said, had assured to increase the number of cylinders by 54,831 by next week.
