A meeting of the chiefs of 26 coastal local bodies in the district on Sunday.

The heads of 26 coastal local bodies in Ernakulam district will soon draw up their suggestions on regarding the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) classification for their respective areas.

The suggestions will be compiled and submitted to the authorities and will be incorporated into the coastal zone management plan (CZMP). The decision was taken at a meeting of civic heads convened by K.V. Thomas, MP, here on Sunday.

Some civic heads complained that the construction and repair of houses had become impossible due to CRZ stipulations. The housing projects announced by the Central and State governments will not take off if suitable changes are not incorporated into the notification, they said. Addressing the meeting, Prof. Thomas said CZMP had to be finalised before April 30 as directed by the National Green Tribunal. MLAs Hibi Eden and V.D. Satheesan were present.
