Chanting “Modi” and waving lit-up mobile phones, hundreds of BJP workers greeted the Prime Minster at Thripunithura as he arrived there on Wednesday evening to wrap up his election campaign meetings in the State.
Apparently impressed with the spectacle of hundreds of lit-up mobile phones being waved to him, Mr. Modi said he was touched by the gesture.
It was Union Minister Rajeev Prathap Rudy who suggested that party workers greet the Prime Minister in a unique way. He even asked them to go for a trial before the arrival of the chief guest and urged them to save their mobile batteries for the purpose.
Party workers who arrived in large numbers at the venue stayed on despite a heavy downpour.
The organisers too were helpless, as the skies opened up just an hour before the Prime Minister’s arrival. At least two speakers, referring to the rain, said the “clouds too eagerly came to see Mr. Modi”. Rain stopped around half-an-hour before Mr. Modi reached the venue.
Snags hit translation
Technical snags played spoilsport while Mr. Modi’s speech was being translated. While translating the speech, former BJP State president V. Muraleedharan had to leave his podium and move closer to Mr. Modi to hear him properly.
When the translator missed some interesting references in the Prime Minister’s speech, some in the crowd were heard correcting him.
Women and children were seen waving the party flag wearing saffron caps. Mr. Modi wrapped up his speech saying: “Nammal onnakanam, nammal nannakanam’ as the crowd cheered him.
