LDF representatives said the picture of television - ballot symbol of their candidate Christy Fernandez, was found unclear during a final verification of EVMs.

The verification process of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the Ernakulam constituency faced some minor disruptions on Saturday after election agents of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) raised protests citing the blurry symbol of their candidate on these machines.

Complaint filed

LDF representatives said the picture of television - ballot symbol of their candidate Christy Fernandez, was found unclear during a final verification of EVMs at various centres across the constituency. Following the finding, a complaint in this regard was raised with the Chief Electoral officer, Kerala.

‘Raising suspicion’

“The lines and borders of the symbol on the EVMs are not adequately visible, raising suspicions of attempts to mislead the voters. Based on this, we raised the issue with the State Election Commission and the District Collector”, they said.

‘Invalid’

Meanwhile, the authorities said the complaint was invalid and they completed the verification process by evening itself.

“The printing on the EVMs is being done by the CEO Office and we verified the complaint with the authority. But the complaint was unfounded and we resumed the process based on its direction,” said District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam, who is also the chief returning officer of the constituency.
