‘Laxity of bureaucracy will encourage subversive forces’

February 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - KOCHI:

The laxity of the bureaucracy in taking the benefits of effective governance and rapid development to the people will encourage subversive forces in society, it was observed at a meeting of the Ernakulam District Development Committee (DDC) on Saturday.

The observation, in the wake of the recent attacks against Nitta Gelatin and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) offices in Kochi, was taken up for discussion by District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam. Government servants should take up the responsibility of delivering services to the commoner and address their issues in a time-bound manner, he said.

One of the major issues that came up for discussion during the DDC meeting was the water theft carried out by various hotels and apartment complexes in the district. It was observed that regions such as Tripunithura and Maradu were reeling under acute water shortage, and water authority officials were directed to find a permanent solution to the issue.

The meeting also noted that carts selling kulukki sarbath and pickles have sprung up in the city after a hiatus despite the ban on them earlier. The authorities have already sent some samples for scientific examination.

The Collector also directed the authorities to initiate steps to address the concerns over the sale of adulterated coconut oil in the State.
