Addressing a press conference here on Monday, State president of the association, Sudheer G. Kollaara said that the CBSE and ICSE school managements were exploiting the absence of a law empowering the State education department to exercise any control over their functioning once they received the No-Objection Certificates (NOCs).
While the CBSE adopted the position that monitoring CBSE schools was the responsibility of the State government, the State education department authorities expressed their helplessness citing the absence of any law to that effect.
“Rather than controlling unrecognized schools as announced by the State Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, he should show the way to control the managements of recognised CBSE and ICSE schools which were functioning in flagrant violation of the set provisions,” Mr. Kollaara said. He alleged that many managements were collecting donations illegally and bypassing CBSE bylaws regarding the functioning of schools.
There were even managements which diverted the land originally shown as part of their school after securing NOC from the State government, Mr. Kollaara said. PTAs were either absent altogether or rendered meaningless in many CBSE and ICSE schools, he alleged.
The district convention of the Association will be held at YMCA Hall on Saturday at 3 p.m. Association State vice-president A. Mukundan and State Committee member P.S. Pradeep also attended the press meet.
