The Varappuzha archdiocesan unit of Kerala Latin Catholic Association (KLCA) is likely to reconsider its decision to field its own candidate for the upcoming Assembly constituency from Vypeen. The decision to reconsider the move was taken on Monday after a KLCA delegation met Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran at the Aluva guesthouse.
The KLCA candidate for Vypeen is Victor Marakkassery.
The Association leaders said they were called for a meeting with the KPCC president, and they raised their grievances with him.
C.J. Paul, P.M. Benchamin and Sherry J. Thomas, who met the KPCC president said they were given a patient hearing by the Congress leader and he responded positively.
Decision on Thursday
The decision on whether the candidate should be in the fray would be taken on Thursday, they said.
The issues raised by the Latin Catholic leadership included coastal zone regulations that hit the water-front dwelling community members hard, Mr. Thomas pointed out.
