Last-minute shopping spree ahead of school reopening in Kochi

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KOCHI:

With a day left for the school reopening, parents and students were busy shopping for school bags and umbrellas on Sunday.

Shops in Broadway did brisk business as parents searched for various items including bags, umbrellas, raincoats, notebooks, shoes, pencil and lunch boxes to name a few. They had a whole variety to choose from ranging from branded products to locally-made items.

“The cost of school bags varies between Rs.300 and Rs.1,000 and above in the branded category. Umbrellas too were in good demand as the monsoon is expected by the first week of June. There were many takers for good quality raincoats,” said a trader in Broadway.

Children were seen requesting their parents to buy bags printed with their favourite cartoon characters. Bags printed with the faces of popular football players remained another attraction. Sale of notebooks and stationary items peaked on Sunday.
