Lane traffic campaign on NH 47 launched

June 18, 2013 01:39 am | Updated 01:39 am IST - KOCHI:

The Motor Vehicles’ Department will embark on an intensive drive to check accidents and to ensure the safe transport of school children, Transport Commissioner Rishi Raj Singh said on Monday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the drive to enforce lane traffic rules along the 70-km-long Cherthala-Angamaly stretch of NH 47.

Under this, goods carriers, autorickshaws, two-wheelers and slow moving vehicles have to use the slow lane on the left side, leaving the fast track for fast moving vehicles. Motorists must indicate well in advance before shifting lanes.

Pamphlets will be distributed for a month and this will be followed by enforcement and penal measures, Mr Singh said. He also flagged off two wheelers that went around the city carrying the message to abide by lane discipline.

Later, he visited the Vyttila Mobility Hub where he went though Motor Vehicles Department’s digital signage system.
