District Collector has issued land acquisition notification for Metro Rail, locking 4.94 acres of land.

No sale or construction will be allowed in survey numbers that have been acquired. And the land would be handed over to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation through the Kochi Metro Rail Corporation within two months, he said.

The Land Revenue Commissioner signed the notification on August 13 and the Collectorate received the order on Monday. It will take effect on Tuesday.

Notification for acquiring land belonging to St. George Church and the mosque will be issued later.

As a follow-up to the notification, price evaluation of land will start soon. The compensation amount is finalised by the District-level purchase committee. Land has already been handed over to KMRL for stations at Cochin University, Edappally, Changampuzha Park and Thykoodam. Steps have been completed for transferring land for Muttam station.

85 cents of land were acquired for station and parking facility at Thykoodam and steps are under way for acquiring nearly 2 more acres, said a press release.
