The district administration is set to hasten the acquisition proceedings for the proposed electronics and hardware park at Amballoor.

District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed said that the land acquisition procedures would be undertaken in two months. The announcement came at a meeting of people's representatives and local residents held at the Amballoor panchayat office to initiate the preliminary measures towards land acquisition.

Land measuring 347 acres owned by about 600 people in Chiraykkal, Mathuruthel, and Puthenkavu in Amballoor panchayat will have to be acquired for the proposed park. The land value will be fixed based on the market price.

Significantly, only 30-odd houses fall within the limits of the land identified for the project, fuelling hopes that acquisition would not be messy. Paddy fields, marshy land, and canals dominate the project site.

Mr. Pareed said that survey would be launched next week. A temporary office alongside the panchayat office will be opened for this purpose. The 49(1) notification for the acquisition of the land will be issued within two months.

The Collector said that acquisition would be completed at the earliest under the fast track process. Those losing their houses will receive full benefits as per the new package announced by the State government.

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation is confident of constructing the park within two years once the land acquisition is completed. It will be the first such park in the State.

Mr. Pareed sought full support of the people in the land acquisition since the project, when completed, is expected to generate about 40,000 jobs.

Deputy Collector K.P. Mohandas Pillai, grama panchayat president K.S. Kuriakose, block panchayat president Reez Puthenveedan, tahsildar K. Radhakrishnan, village officer P.V. Vidyadharan were among those present.
