Work at the HMT casting yard of Kochi Metro will resume on Monday. The labour problem that held up the work was temporarily resolved at a meeting convened by District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth and attended by the representatives of DMRC, L&T and trade unions here on Saturday.

As per an understanding reached at the meeting, L&T will submit to the joint labour commissioner a separate list of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers needed for the work at the casting yard worksite. Trade unions should also submit a list of workers they could provide as per this requirement. The Collector said that a decision on the proportion of workers to be enlisted for the work would be reached based on both the lists.

Follow-up measures on the labour issue would be discussed at a meeting to be held on February 5. It was decided that the prevalent work pattern would continue till then.

Regional Joint Labour Commissioner Sasiprakash and trade union leaders were present.
