Kudumbasree Mission's role stressed

September 05, 2011 11:29 am | Updated 11:29 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kudumbasree Mission has a key role to play in the implementation of the proposed National Food Security Act and similar legislations, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K.V. Thomas has said.

“The draft National Food Security Bill recognises the pre-eminence of women in families by identifying them as heads of households. The bill contains various provisions for bettering the lot of women. As a model for the entire world in women empowerment, Kudumbasree thus has a vital role to play in the implementation of new laws like this one,” Mr. Thomas said while inaugurating the 13{+t}{+h} anniversary of Kudumbasree district mission here on Saturday.

Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer, who was the chief guest, said that the mission was a ‘silent revolution' of 38 lakh women. Citing the forthcoming election of Community Development Society (CDS) chairpersons in December, he said it would augur well for the mission if it evolved a consensus in the selection of chairpersons.

‘Pineshree', packaged pineapple manufactured by Kudumbasree, was released by K.P. Dhanapalan, MP.
