Kudumbasree, which plays a prominent role in women's empowerment, could not have celebrated the International Women's Day in a better way.
It was all women's show at the district panchayat hall at Kakkanad on Thursday as Kudumbasree brought together the women heading various departments in the district on the same platform. They were welcomed to the venue by women's Sinkarimelam even as a woman photographer was ready to capture that perfect moment of camaraderie among women.
Capping the occasion were the words of praise the District Collector, P.I. Sheikh Pareed, had for the administrational efficiency of women bureaucrats including the Additional District Magistrate, District Planning Officer and the Panchayat Deputy Director.
Mr. Pareed observed that women empowerment institutions like Kudumbasree should be able to put an end to atrocities against women and children in the society. Women should seize their opportunities and surge ahead in the mainstream of the society. Mr. Pareed said that the family and the society should support women while facing problems.
Additional District Magistrate E.K. Sujatha said that while men may be physically superior, its women who have the strength of mind. Indian culture that gives respect to women has undergone change with time. Women are no longer safe even at their own homes. Ms. Sujatha said that women often fall prey to the anarchy caused by alcohol and drugs.
District Planning Officer R. Girija, Panchayat Deputy Director S. Latha, District Social Welfare Officer Sundari, National Rural Health Mission Programme Manager K.V. Beena, and District Principal Agriculture Officer Ashadevi Varma also spoke.
Celebration at NPOL
The Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) celebrated the International Women's Day on Thursday with a talk by M. Lakshmi Kumari, director of the Vivekananda Kendra Vedic Vision Foundation, Kodungalloor, on ‘The art and science of being a woman'.
