Employees of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation in the Ernakulam district kept off work from dawn to dusk on Sunday to protest the killing of their colleague.

P.V. Sadashivan, 53, a driver with the transport corporation, was beaten to death by two persons at the Aluva bus depot. The violent attack came after a run-in between the duo and the driver. He collapsed during the attack and was taken to the Aluva taluk hospital where he was pronounced dead.

More than 630 schedules of the transport services were cancelled after the employees struck work, said a spokesman for the employees on Sunday.

The body was brought to the Ernakulam bus depot for his colleagues to pay their last respects. Minister for Transport Aryadan Mohammed and managing director of the road transport corporation were among those who attended the cremation of the deceased at the crematorium near Aluva UC College on Sunday afternoon.
