Kochi is probably the only city in India set to join over 80 cities across the world to take out a ‘Photowalk’ in celebration of the first anniversary of the meagrely-successful social networking site, Google Plus, on June 30.
As on date, 81 cities will see shutterbugs of varied skill levels — from greenhorns honing their skills on cell phone cameras to thoroughbred professionals clicking away using their DSLRs — taking a Photowalk on the occasion.
The event in Kochi is organised by the city-based Viewfinder, a photo hobbyists’ club, which boasts over 1,800 active members across the country.
Ironically, the photographers’ collective has a community on Facebook — Google’s rival.
“Starting from Penta Menaka at 2.30 p.m., the walkers will stroll along Broadway up to Subhash Park before returning to Marine Drive.
The event provides a platform for budding photographers to snatch away a lesson or two in photography from veterans,” Aby Mathew, one of the founders of the club, said. On Saturday, a team of 18 walkers took out a trial walk along the Cherai beach to formulate a plan for the June 30 event.
