Not to be left behind in utilising the new-age media in taking its development projects and other welfare measures to the people, the District Panchayat has logged in to Facebook.

District panchayat President Eldhose Kunnappillil said the civic body’s Facebook account would also serve as a platform to share ideas and lodge complaints.
The Facebook page of the District Panchayat will be unveiled at the Onam celebrations to be held at its office on Thursday in the presence of standing committee chairmen and block panchayat presidents.
Social networking sites are being widely used for election campaigning and governance by governments and local administrative bodies in developed countries. With social networking sites being now available even on mobile phone platforms, the district panchayat felt it was time to utilise it for efficient administration and gathering opinions.
Pictures, press releases, and video clippings of the District Panchayat’s programmes will be posted on its Facebook page.
Details of each division and various projects will also be made available.
The district panchayat’s decision seems to be influenced by the district administration, which opened a Facebook page in the name of the district collector two weeks back. News and announcements from various government departments are regularly posted on this page.
