Kochi corporation members sworn in today

November 01, 2010 02:27 pm | Updated 02:27 pm IST - KOCHI:

The newly elected members of the Kochi corporation council were sworn in on Monday.

District Collector Dr. M. Beena administered the oath of office to R. Thyagarajan, the senior member of the council.

Mr. Thayagarajan later administered the oath of office to the other elected members.

A large number of party workers and family members of the councillors had reached the Kochi corporation office to witness the swearing in ceremony.

While some supporters came with placards complete with the pictures of their civic representatives, some others came with the party flags to the function. Many supporters cheered their civic representatives as their names were called for the ceremony. One CPI (M) supporter who had a sickle and hammer painted on his face grabbed the attention of those who reached the council hall.

The civic authorities had made elaborate arrangements for people to witness the ceremony. A pandhal was erected at the patio of the corporation office to accommodate the general public. Closed circuit TVs were also installed at the patio.
