The Cochin International Airport has tightened security arrangements, particularly at the cargo terminal, from Monday onwards following the recovery of explosives from an aircraft that landed at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.
All security agencies including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been alerted and checking of passenger and vehicles have been intensified.
The regular security checks have been tightened and baggage screening has also been strengthened.
“A security committee meeting convened on Sunday also decided to implement more regulations at the access control and cargo hold areas of the airport,” said A. C. K. Nair, the airport director.

He also spoke of deploying more number of security personnel and more intelligence officials to keep a close watch on the staff entering the operational areas and they had been asked to report to the terminal manager on finding any unattended baggage on the airport premises.
Unlike other airports in the country, the screening of outbound cargo from CIAL is carried out by its own security inspectors, as authorized by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
Cargo certification
The security certification of cargo is being done in coordination with the CISF officials who verify the security seal imposed on the consignments and regulate its movement to the tarmac.
