KMRL meet to decide on metro rail extension and rehab package

When the director board of Kochi Metro Rail Limited meets here on Friday, high on agenda will be shortlisting an agency to do a feasibility study of Metro’s extension to Kakkanad and international airport and spelling out a relief and rehabilitation package for those who surrender land.

The Board will also commission a study for preparing a transit-oriented development plan along the metro corridor and the 22 stations en route. It will also discuss the proposed flyover which will integrate with the metro rail at Edappally junction.

The board will also discuss the formation of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) committee for the Kochi Metropolitan Area. The members will also take note of the induction of Sudhir Mittal, Adviser (Works), Railway Board, in place of A.K.Gupta and Ved Mani Tiwari, Director, Systems into the KMRL Board.

Tripunithura extension

On why the Board has not formally announced the metro rail’s extension to Tripunithura, which is close to the present terminal station Pettah, sources said : “We are awaiting an updated report on the extension, based on the project’s initial detailed project report. A decision on this will be taken by July-end.”
