The crisis–ridden Kingfisher Airlines, as part of scaling down its operations, has suspended its Kochi operations from Sunday onwards.
According to officials, the airport operator has received an official note from the airline with regard to the withdrawal of all its services on a temporary basis.
“Despite setting the final date as March 25, they are now expected to continue for two more days and wind up the operations thereafter,' said a senior airport official.
Earlier, the carrier had served a letter to the airport, saying that all its operations from the city would remain grounded from March 25.
Following the intimation, the carrier has already closed its counter at the airport here and withdrawn all its employees, fuelling speculation of a permanent withdrawal from the Kochi market.
With flights to Agati, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore every day, the airline was originally scheduled to operate as many as 28 services a week from Cochin airport during this summer season. In the last winter schedule, it had scheduled a total of 63 services a week including seven international flights to Colombo. Air India is now the only airline to fly the Kochi-Agati route
