The absence of three officials from the recent district meeting of the Coastal Zone Management Committee took a curious turn with the secretary of the Kochi Corporation explaining that he was busy attending another official meeting convened on the same day. M.G. Rajamanickam, the District Collector, in his capacity as the District Magistrate, had sought explanations from the secretaries of Kochi Corporation and Maradu municipality and Assistant Conservator (Social Forestry) for not attending the meeting.
The corporation secretary explained that he was attending a meeting convened by the government secretary in Kochi on the same day.
The Assistant Conservator of Forest, who maintained that he was on leave on the day of the meeting, said he was yet to get the show-cause notice.
N.K. Krishnakumar, the secretary of the Maradu municipality, who was unaware of the meeting, said the communication regarding the meeting didn’t reach him on time. Mr. Krishnakumar, who didn’t receive the show-cause notice, said he explained his absence from the meeting to the Collector.
The District Collector has sought explanations from the officials for not attending the meeting.
