The Kerala High Court on Tuesday allowed the KSRTC to go ahead with the tendering process for the purchase of 1,790 buses.
Justice A.Muhamed Mustaque passed the order after vacating the stay on the tendering process initiated by the KSRTC for purchasing new buses.
The verdict came on a petition filed by the KSRTC seeking to vacate the stay on the tendering process. It was on a petition filed by Ashok Leyland that the stay order was passed. The automobile company alleged that the KSRTC had refused to accept its tender on flimsy grounds.
The court, while observing that the KSRTC could go ahead with the tendering process, asked the transport corporation to accept the application of Ashok Leyland. In its petition seeking to vacate the stay, the KSRTC pointed out that that it was planning to buy buses mainly to replace its 15 year-old-buses.
Of the 1,790 buses it had decided to buy, 290 would be purchased under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) schemes.
The court also issued notices to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on a writ petition challenging a Government Order to reintroduce super class (super-fast, fast passenger and super express) private bus services on nationalised routes.
