Save FACT Action Committee, a combine of trade unions at Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore, has expressed disappointment over a decision by the State government that it would consider withdrawing K-VAT on natural gas for the fertilizer company only after the Union government approved a financial revival package for the company.

A statement from the Action Committee claimed here that the State government had made its intentions clear on the issue. The decision was a gross violation of the promise given by the State government in the past, the press release from the Committee said.

Besides being a violation of promises, the decision by the State government moved away from the soft approach previous State governments had adopted in the case of the FACT, the press release said.

Whenever FACT had been in trouble, previous State government used to extent helping hand and also exert pressure on the Union government to come forward with a solution. However, the UDF government had not taken such a course so far, the press release claimed.
