Days after the CPI took into its fold several expelled CPI(M) workers of Udayamperoor, near Tripunithura, the CPI(M) district secretariat has criticised CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran in strongest terms.
Mr. Rajendran was trying to weaken Left unity by according a reception to those who had been ousted from the CPI(M) for betraying it in the polls and for unacceptable behaviour towards the widow of a martyr, maintained the district secretariat.
“Party man T. Raghuvaran was expelled for signing a contract that went against the interest of the workers at the Udayamperoor LPG bottling plant of the Indian Oil Corporation. He also behaved in a rude manner with the widow of the martyr Vidyadharan for not speaking up against the party. The woman complained to the party following which he was ousted,” said a statement issued by the secretariat.
The party secretariat maintained that only time would tell who the CPI was strengthening by accepting those who betrayed the Left. O.V. John, another party man, was ousted after he was caught red-handed while leaking party proceedings to the media, the statement said. “If Kanam thought that those who supported class enemies would strengthen the CPI, it would be well and good. But the act of receiving expelled CPI(M) workers into the CPI would wreck Left unity in the district.”
It was a year ago that a few party workers of Udayamperoor, mostly belonging to the V.S. Achuthanandan faction, were expelled from the CPI(M).
