Kaloor market: court notice to corporation

July 07, 2010 04:13 pm | Updated 04:16 pm IST - Kochi:

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Kochi Corporation and Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) on a writ petition seeking a directive to maintain the Kaloor public market in good condition and to provide basic facilities there.

The petition was filed by Salim T.A., Treasurer, GCDA Kaloor Market Shop Owners' Association.

The petition also sought a directive to shift the private market at Deshabhimani junction to the Kaloor public market. He pleaded that a directive be issued to the government to quantify the loss sustained by the GCDA due to non-occupation of the shop rooms in the market.

The petitioner said that the market was constructed at a cost of Rs.1 crore.

The shopping complex in the market had 75 rooms. However, most of them were not sold out.
