Former minister Jose Thettayil’s wife came out in support of her husband, who is staying away from public glare since the case of sexual abuse was registered against him.
Addressing the media at their residence, Daisy Jose, Mr. Thettayil’s wife, termed the case registered against Mr. Thettayil as gross human rights violation and called for public support. She said complaint would be lodged before State Human Rights Commission, the Speaker and the Governor.
In a media release, Ms. Jose said the family was being hounded since the complaint was lodged by the 30-year-old woman on June 23. “Nowhere in the 15-page complaint has she said, either directly or indirectly, that my husband or son did anything that amounted to rape.”
At the same time, the complainant admitted that she recorded the intimate moments, used it for blackmail and then released it to media by herself. A case against her could have been registered under Information Technology Act 2000. But the police has been protecting her and registered case for serious offences against Mr. Thettayil and son, she said.
“It is known to all that my husband returned to life after serious cancer infection and has been surviving on life-saving medicine without even being able to have normal food,” Ms. Jose said.
“The complaint against Mr. Thettayil and son came up in the midst of the current political situation. Character assassination is being done to serve political purposes,” she said, reminding that Mr. Thettayil had been leading an unblemished public life for the last 40 years.
The police team under Ajeetha Begum, Superintendent of Police, is probing the complaint against Mr. Thettayil. The team searched his residence after the complainant said she had handed over the web camera used for recording the visuals and laptop to Mr. Thettayil.
