Residents of West Kochi too will become the beneficiaries of e-governance scheme being implemented in Kochi Corporation shortly.
The civic body is planning to open a Jana Sevana Kendra in Mattanchery next month. With the Kendra becoming operational, the residents of West Kochi area would be able to obtain certificates related to birth, death and marriages from the centre itself. If everything progresses as planned, the corporation would be able to open the Mattanchery centre by mid-October, said T.K. Ashraf, chairman of the Health Standing Committee of the civic body.
Online facility is now available at the Kendra functioning from the main office and also the Edappally zonal office of the Kochi Corporation.
The new centre would reduce the trouble of residents of West Kochi from coming all the way to the main office of the civic body for obtaining the certificates, he said.
The West Kochi centre would offer the services to the applicants in a cosy atmosphere. The office of the Kendra would be an air conditioned one and visitor facilities would be in place, he said. The civic body is also planning to assign the responsibility of marriage registrar to one of its officials in West Kochi.
Such a decision would save the time required for getting the marriages certified by officials of the registration department. The designated officer can register the marriages at the West Kochi office itself and issue the certificates without delay, he said.
Birth certificates are issued on real-time basis from the main office of the civic body though the marriage certificates would take some more time.
