Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that information technology-related jobs being generated in the State will exceed the expectations of the government.
In his address at the inauguration of the model finishing school of the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) here on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the government had initiated steps for the development of the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi.
The new Technocity will also open up several opportunities in the IT sector, the Chief Minister said.
The finishing schools started in the government sector would help in honing the skills of the youth in the State. He said that such schools will help them improve their personal and communication skills. Mr. Achuthanandan encouraged the youngsters to tap the opportunities emerging in the IT fields while building up their career.
In his presidential address, Education Minister M. A. Baby announced the launch of ‘Naipunya development programme' aimed at developing the skills of the youth. He said that 100 centres will be launched across the State to train youngsters in various fields.
The duration of the programme that will be launched jointly by the IHRD, vocational higher secondary education and technical education departments, will be three months.
Nine new applied science colleges will be launched under the IHRD during the next year.
The IHRD had already started nine applied science colleges in the State.
Mr. Baby said several new developments were taking place in the IT sector in the State but certain vested interests were narrowing down discussions on this field to a specific project based in Kochi.
