A formal decision has been taken to name the system of mass rapid transport as ‘Kochi Metro’, and not ‘Komet’ as was planned earlier.
There were allegations that the earlier name was selected without reaching a consensus.
The other metros in the country, except the Bangalore Metro (named ‘Namma Metro’) are known by the names of their respective cities.
