IPL cricket team for Kochi opposed

April 14, 2010 09:30 pm | Updated 09:30 pm IST - KOCHI:

The birth of Kochi's new IPL cricket team will add to the criminalisation of the city, a CPI(ML) convention held here on Tuesday said.

The convention, organised by the party as part of its resistance to the march of neo-colonialism, said that Kochi was fast becoming a centre of mafia culture, new capital and speculation. With the arrival of the IPL cricket team, the convention feared, speculation in real estate and other sectors would grow.

P.J. James, member of the CPI(ML) central committee, opened the convention. P.N. Provint, P.C. Subramanyan, Sabi Joseph and K.S. Bindu were among those who spoke.
