The tragic death of a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) employee the other day seems to have stirred the enforcement agencies into action to bring down the unacceptably high accident rates along the vulnerable Seaport-Airport Road.
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has drawn up a report in this regard after conducting an inspection of the road along with the police on Friday. The report will be submitted to the District Collector shortly.
Officials found that the area beyond the surface of the road remains haphazard and potholed while there was a dangerous height difference between the two portions.
Shoulder line markings indicating the width of the road were largely missing.
There was considerable disparity in level at the points of entry to the main road from side roads and service roads.
The complete absence of bus bays meant that buses invariably stopped along the main motorable part of the road, leading to traffic snarls by holding up the entire traffic.
Worse still, two-wheeler riders were found increasingly falling victims to accidents in their efforts to avoid buses.
Traffic signs were completely missing.
The inspection was led by Edappally Traffic Sub-Inspector R. Madhu, Motor Vehicle Inspector N.K. Deepu, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector K.M. Najeeb and Assistant Sub-Inspector P.C. Appu.
